Reflection

Having more almost never fixes the feeling that something is missing. As soon as it arrives, the target moves. The Bible calls contentment something that does not depend on how much you have, and 1 Thessalonians 5:18 shows how it works.

When we look at the Scriptures, we realize that the theme of Thanksgiving is not just moral advice, but a matter of spiritual survival. Our natural tendency is to follow the current of the culture, but the call of Christ is always countercultural.

The text of 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us of a fundamental truth: 'Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.'. This is not just a promise or an empty commandment; it is an invitation to experience the abundant life God planned for us. When we choose to trust that word, something changes inside us.

Often our greatest struggle is not against outward circumstances, but against our own resistance to surrendering to God's will. We want control, we want immediate answers, but God calls us to a place of dependence and faith.

Today you are invited to re-examine your posture toward Thanksgiving. It is not about trying to be perfect in your own strength, but about letting God's grace transform your heart from the inside out. True change begins when we acknowledge our need for Him.

Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Prayer

Lord, I have been chasing more, believing peace comes on the next step up. Teach me the contentment You taught Paul, the kind that does not depend on circumstances. May I know how to live with little and with much without losing my way. In Jesus' name, amen.
